Teacher Workshops
Adequate teacher training plays a critical role in the quality of education. TPP first funded Maria Yaani, the Engusero Pre-Primary School teacher, to attend a three-week Montessori training in Dar es Salaam in 2014. TPP then performed a needs assessment in 2016 to understand the challenges facing Naitolia-area primary school teachers. That same year TPP created its first week-long training for 25 local teachers on the new national curriculum and self-assessment. Teachers also attended a three-day training at ECHO, a local NGO, to learn how the feeding programs' gardens could improve nutrition and alleviate food insecurity. TPP faculty partners and DUCE have continued to conduct yearly teacher training workshops.
Teacher Coaching
In 2019, twenty teachers received personalized training after the main training workshop. Professional teaching coaches observed trainees teach in their own classroom and provided personalized recommendations. During coach-facilitated group discussions, trainees explored ways to work together and with district officers to improve learning outcomes.
